The `Rape of Dervorgila' 1152 invited Anglo-Norman invasion 1169
The Norman Invaders. In the 1160's, the high king, Turlough O'Connor
overthrew Dermot. He asked Henry II, the Norman king of England, for help in
regaining his kingdom. Henry gave Dermot permission to recruit Norman soldiers
Dermot promised to recruit Norman soldiers, and Dermot promised the Normans a
share of the land they helped him reconquer. With Norman help, he recovered
his kingdom in 1170.
