He advanced north of the Thames and was reputedly the 2nd Bretwalda or
overlord among southern Anglo-Saxon kings. In 577 he defeated Ethelbert of
Kent at Wibbandum, killing 2 of his sons. He killed 3 British kings (Conmail,
Condidan & Farinmail) at Dyrham (577), 7 miles north of Bath which he captured
with Cirencester & Gloucester. His turbulent reign came to an end following a
power struggle in Wessex and died in exile.
